It seems to be the most popular gauge.

makes the 11 gauge look like a cap pistol.

well to be honest do u want to kill the guy or scare him off?

This part makes sense. Fuck walls though, that shit is easy to fix.

Since you live in L.A. I would probably get something a little more powerful.  If someone does break in you don't want them laughing at your little baby pistol and then proceed to jack you anyway.  I would probably go with a nice .45 myself.

L.A. you might wanna check gun laws you might not be able to posses a hand gun in city limits.

not necessarily, you have the right to bear arms, it doesn't specify what kind. Some cities have laws on what kind of weapons you can own.

I have a Springfield 1911 and an XD Compact .40 -- I don't really see a need for another handgun, so my next investment will likely be a .30 rifle.

You don't want too powerful of a gun because if you miss, it could go through a wall/window and kill a neighbor or someone outside.

If your serious about owning a firearm, I would suggest you seek advice elsewhere. I believe you'll recieve alot of misinformation from people who have  limited or no knowledge on the subject here.

I have a S&W 686 357 mag/.38 special.  I use it for protection in the woods not at home, kind of living in a good neighborhood, though I do have my lucky bat in my closet.

I did my homework when looking for my first handgun in gun forums, and came up with my set up for both protection and hunting uses.  Not to mention I prefer revolvers, the less complex the mechanism the less there is for something to go wrong.  That will be the only gun opinion you get from me from me here.

If you're looking for a bigger gun (rifle/shotgun) go ALL OUT"
