For you first time gun buyers, I recommend a rifle rather than a pistol.  That is unless you are dead set on concealed carry.

I will also add that a first time gun owner who has never handled weapons needs proper training... especially if you ever plan to carry it.

Even if someone has handled firearms before?

I planned on getting a 10/22 to get familiar with shooting again as you said... but as a kid I put about 1000 22lr rounds down range, and I dont have a need for a long gun right now so I jumped into a g23.

Sure.  I enjoy shooting my rifles way more than my handgun.  It all depends on the intended use though.

If you need something easily portable, get a handgun.  Otherwise a rifle outperforms a handgun in every category.

I agree with wheelr, fundamentals are much easier and safer to learn on a long gun than on a pistol.

If someone wanted to jump straight into a pistol I'd recommend some formal training.

I don\'t think anyone is going to literally kill her. She\'ll probably just get thrown in jail and get raped a bunch.

'Merican't

I mean, a 15 year old 8th grader? Really? I feel like the third time you fail to get into high school you should probably be euthanized anyway...
