Rusty Shackleford:
.22 will kill a coyote with a well placed shot and supersonic loads, shot a few with my 10/22 that ate my cat.

gnar_rider:
something i just thought of: does anybody know if buying a gun at cabelas/bass pro is a good idea, i wouldn't know if they are overpriced, underpriced, or about like any other gun store?
reason i'm asking is because i have 230 dollars in bass pro gift certificates and there is one only 40 minutes away so thats what i was planning on putting toward my purchase.

Birdmane:
It depends on the market/what is around them.  The cabelas I worked at had a giant family owned gun store nearby, so the prices were in check.  If you buy something on a sale it will be an alright price.  Do they have used guns?  If so do that.  Or buy sale ammo.

master:
The big name stores are okay, like Bird said just check around for prices and catch a sale.

Just buy a 10/22 and call it a day. They are the most popular .22 for a reason.

couch:
I love my 10/22. Its great for putting a lot of rounds down range cheaply. Its dead on accurate at 100 yards. Quiet, no recoil and easy for everyone to shoot.

Having said all that, I've been enjoying my shotguns a lot more than my .22 lately. Been shooting clays quite a bit. There's a lot more of a challenge with that than my scoped 10/22 with a bipod.
