took my wobbly fly cranks off.  degreased and put permanent loctite on the splines . I'm hoping it holds up till I can get new cranks

my friends thunderbolts always seem to wobble. he cranks up the bolt with mad force but in 5 minutes they still wobble, no matter what the spacer combination.

also, my other friends wombolts also seem to wobble but thats acceptable (those cranks are like 5 years old)

I have never come across a set of Wom/Thunderbolts that had wobble which wasn't due either to a lack of spacers or spacer tube, or insufficient grease under the head of the bolt or on the wedges. That lip on the cranks where the bolt head runs MUST be well greased so it can go tight properly.

If it is an old set of Wombolts with the old wedges then having some of the wedges upside down can cause it also.

I hope this helps.

How old are they? Where are they cracked? Warranty.

Possibly, but more often than not it is a lack of spacers or lube... If you ride them for a long time loose then it will obviously eventually deform the wedges and they may need to be replaced to get them to tighten up without wobble, but it will be fixable.

Found these little guys today...

other than the cracks, what frame is that? as that head tube looks really poorly made. i dont know what to call them but the skirt which covers the head set is not equal all the way round, not sure if that is important though.

This wasn't done today but I couldn't think of where else it deserved to go. I have a Demolition Rouge hub and my hubguard didnt fit with the chain tensioners built into my Fly Tierra. I really like the tensioner so I had a machinist throw it on the drill press and bore out a slot. Result is a perfect flush fit, however it doesnt allow much room for rotation.

The headtube is actually the same height all around, it is just the radius on the outside edge that varies slightly. I just had a look at my bike and it is very hard to see, the shadows and dirt in the picture seem to amplify the effect quite a lot.

It may have been caused by me when I was polishing the frame, but I'm not too sure. It is a Fly Montana 2 from a couple of years ago.

so the last 3+ times ive put fronts on my bike, they came off cos they just werent performing. cable rubbing the tyre, lackluster braking performance, rough pulling etc.
This time though i think ive cracked it, the phrase "throwing a brick in your spokes" applies. im seriously worried that im gonna rip my headtube off with this setup, clear pads + chrome mayhem.

hope it was worth the 2.5 hours i just spent truing my wheel and switching my brakes over so i could get my evo 2 on the front
this year i am going to have sex and it will be awesome
