I reworked my brake today with a new linear cable and pads, I also shaved down barrel adjuster on the lever and made a brass bushing for the cable head.

It basically just helps to reduce friction and keeps the lever smoother for longer. The main pivot points of levers and calipers are usually made of brass for the same reason, why not cover the cable too?

I have brake levers on my bikes that are older than most of the folks on this board. my brakes are still real smooth.

f'real. i've been running the same tech 77 since 1996. i don't see any harm with that little brass bushing though, i usually grease the lug on my cable if it squeaks or doesn't pull smooth.

I was having trouble with that particular lever, lots of clicking/poping from the cable head. I tried to sand off any burs and grease it, but that only lasted for a few weeks. Hopefully the bushing fixed it, feels great so far! I took the idea from an early 80's mountain bike I saw at the shop one day.

took a file to my freeze stem.

I love when what should be a simple ten minute part swap turns into a cuss fest. Stem pinched and I hate doing the nickle/washer trick. file, file, file, file, cuss cuss, file.

fits well now! :)
