Took my journeyman exam today. Have very mixed feelings about it. It's a very broad field (brand new trade, and it's only a trade in Alberta) so it's a TON of knowledge to know, but you generally only do one specific sub job in the broader spectrum of the trade...

Talking to my coworkers who have also written the exam, they also felt like they did terribly, but all ended up passing so that gives me hope.

Just got hit with a $4,000 medical bill for my son when he was born. Payed both my wife and his copay since he went into the newborn intensive care unit for a few days. Wtf. Says it's due by oct 17th. Love it

As a UK resident I don't really get the whole medical thing in the US, but what would happen if someone had a baby but was unemployed / in debt already and just couldn't pay? Would you be taken to court / car repossessed etc?

They would send the bill to a collection agency, who would harass you nonstop via calls, mail, etc. The debt would go on your credit report, which employers CAN reference in the hiring process. So lets say your potential employer overlooks it but they're far enough that you need a vehicle to commute. Good luck trying to get that car loan you need so you can have a vehicle to go to a job to pay off your debt. It's a fucked system.

It depends, it can go into collections. It can be written off as a loss because they realize its too large a value to ever collect from a certain individual. I've had friends go into bankruptcy over medical bills they couldn't fulfill.
