Could be for temporary work. I know that some places here will hire someone on with a contract, that way the company can say "you're employed for this length of time, you get no benefits, we can fire you at any time, you will only make this much, etc."

That way, the company can hire you for as long as they need and once that contract is up, they don't need to pay you 2 weeks wage, or severance or whatever.

I'm a partner in a consulting firm. We deal with a couple of investment banks and private equity funds advising on financial risk management, and I specialize in delta one quant/algo trading of equity derivatives.

We've been trying to expand for headcount in high frequency trading, but all the good talent keep being sniped by the big investment banks/ other funds in the market. The fact that nobody has yet tried to poach me for the last two years probably means i'm not as good in the job as i see myself...

I am a RN/ Certified Wound Specialist working in homecare currently. I go to folks homes and evaluate their wounds, come up with treatment plans and get the MDs to sign off on them. Pretty interesting job aside from the paperwork.

Basically you have to have some kind of contract to do any work over here. It's a good thing as it's mostly to protect the employee.

Tall Opinion:
Respiratory Therapist at one the largest inpatient hospitals in the country. Currently i'm working in the ICU running and managing the life support ventilators. Other times I can be placed on the general floors administering breathing medications/therapy.
