You can also get stainless cable ties of varying designs but I have never actually tried them.

Was thinking like some thin kevlar strapping might be ideal, though may be hard to come by. Always had the best results with the cloth strap that comes with. http://i.imgur.com/UFJqqt9.jpg

I had to use pliers to tighten mine when I had them.
