I am building up a 22", and it looks like I want to go with a 23-9, but I cannot find a 23t sprocket anywhere.

Profile does pretty much any size you can think of. I tend to get drivers on their own because they tend to be discounted (for big sizes) anyway. You might be able to find some old stock hubs with 10t drivers like Odyssey/Gsport or Shadow. The Set still do 10t hubs.

I was planning on getting a clutch freecoaster, but I guess I might just lace up my old 10t ratchet and run a 25. Its really annoying, I remember years ago being able to get almost any sprocket in 22-30 and all hubs had a 9-11 option.

Hit up empire, a while back Primo didn't sell 10 tooth drivers on their own so when I let empire know I was looking for one they ordered a hub with a 10 tooth driver and sold me just the driver even though in the long run they either have to find someone only looking for a hub shell or replace it with a 9 tooth driver and sell it complete. Another reason why tom and tinas team are A+.

Still pretty sure Flatland fuel is the way to go. Think you can get Flatware sprockeys for your cranks, might be super small though.

I have an animal 23 tooth on one of my cruisers with 23/9.  It rides pretty good.

*I will 2nd the wish of having more 10tooth options for modern freecoasters.

I used to remind people about 55-ish gear inches being the classic gear ratio for bmx. 

44 / 16 X 20 = 55
25 / 9 X 20 = 55.5


But, it really seems like everyone who switches to slightly stouter gearing has no interest in going back.

So, for 22"s, I'd really suggest you just go with 25/9 X 22".  It's slightly less than 28 / 9 X 20".
28 / 9 X 20 = 62.2
25 / 9 X 22 = 61.1 gear inches

I never liked 28/9 on my 20", 28/10 always felt pretty good to me. The 23/9 on the 22" is pretty darn close. Everything is in the mail now, and I am super excited.

Maybe I will do a proper check and some better pictures, but I probably won't. You can probably figure out whats on it. It might be the only 22 with a coaster though.



I have only gotten a chance to ride in front of the house, but it feels incredible. I had to take 2 years off riding while I waited for a knee surgery and after coming back my BMX bike just felt really cramped and uncomfortable. I put off buying a 22" for over a year because I wasn't sure if I would like it, but i finally bit the bullet and it feels great. I have been waiting a long time for this bike.

I've had a coaster on mine since day one with it.  Glad to see someone else joining the 22 revolution!  I know what you mean about feeling cramped on a 20 now.  My 20 has a 21.5 top tube and it still feels small to me.  I feel like I can hop my 22 and 24 so much higher and much more controlled.

I know exactly what you mean. Hopping on my 20 is almost painful now, but the 22 feels great. I can't believe I put this off for so long. It's reignited that flame for BMX I had that was lost after my knee injury.  Next step is to get some csnti mounts welded on the front.
