I think most of the knurled ones are still out there, just that everyone seem to be buying the large and smooth ones now.

I went in to a shop last year asking for a light weight foldable tyre, and they just laughed at me saying that noone cares about tyre-weight anymore...

I also visited a BMX-store in Flensburg, Germany last weekend and they had some new Shadow tyres for 54 euros, never seen a BMX tyre that expensive!

Don't really need a super knobby tyre for dirt as it isn't really loose like you might find on an mtb track. You can still get light tyres from companies like Maxxis, Tioga and KHE. Fly Rubens are still the gentleman's choice.
There are definitely riders that still care about weight like back in 2009. They are, how you say, le park rats. The market is largely ignoring park riders with the exception of companies like Total and Colony. Not everyone is a jibs rider but that is 95% of what the market is catering for just now.

EDIT: Also, find me some Fly Sergio tyres.

Tires are crazy heavy these days. A stiff, heavy tire can ruin a bike's feeling. I miss foldable revenge tires.

i think it's united that still makes a large foladable tire and it's expensive.

Maybe tires in itself are the definitive product that currently defines BMX. We'll look back and realize "holy, shit we just gave up and made what the other guy is making." and then John was a zombie.

Big balloon tires are silly to me. Only made for new brake less bikes. The only good options in my opinion are maxxis and Tioga tires if you aren't getting tiny flatland tires

I miss the k lytes and folding Rubens. Is price really the reason EVERYONE quit making them?

I also couldn't trust the slick tires that are out now, I  would always think I was gonna slip and eat shit.

slicks are fine, its coloureds that are dangerous, they go glossy and dont grip as well as black tyres

I'd kill to find another Ruben 2.2125 tire.  Or whatever size it was that was 1 size below the 2.25
