The Bike Shop / Re: Odyssey Clutch wobble
« on: August 13, 2016, 10:46:59 PM »
You know, youre right I must know nothing about my own hub I've been riding

Meh, as long as you tighten the axle bolts hard there's no wobble (had mine for 8 months now). And yes you can use pedal pressure all day! Pedal pressure feels so much better on the clutch then any other freecoaster Hub I've ridden

Wrong!!  Tighten until the bolts snap, theres still wobble.  Multiple people have reported back  that unless running your chain tight, there is a wobble.

Figured it out, had to put the primo dsg back on and the creaking went away. Kinda sucks cuz it probably means something is not quite right if there's a creaking noise without any guards

The Bike Shop / Noise after overhauling freecoaster (odyssey)
« on: August 12, 2016, 03:08:22 PM »
I overhauled my odyssey clutch hub today since I've been using it quite a bit for the past 8 months. I took extra caution to make sure everything was put together correctly. After cleaning and greasing the hub, everything runs smoothly however when I pedal hard there is a k-k-k-k-k sort of noise and I am wondering if this noise is the clutch re-bedding into the shell and will go away soon? The engagement overall is much smoother but I am worried about damaging the hub since crunchy noises and hubs don't go well together.

I thought about the design of the Hub and the only parts that seem like they would make noise pedaling hard would be driver bearings or the clutch itself and I'm pretty sure the driver bearings are fine. Does anyone else have any experience in this? Thank you!

You can use a piece of string and hold it in the middle of the head tube and see if the other end of the string is equidistant to each dropout tip. Not the most precise but it works

I've found that I have the best luck with the zipties when I make sure to position them properly before tightening them down. (sorry for the shitty wording ahead) If you position the zip tie head so that it lays flat against the back of the gland when you pull the tie through it works much better. Essentially leave 5-8mm of slack between the head of zip tie and the guard when you're putting it on so that when you pull it tight you can bend the zip tie so the head lies flat. If you have the head of the zip tie tight against the guard, it makes it pull at more of a 90 degree angle when you hit the hub guard. Once I figured this out I haven't snapped another zip tie (knock on wood)

Also crooks got somewhat easier when I switched from 2.4 to 2.2 in the back

but what about answering my question, which is that , is there any truth behind bigger tire  - less psi - better bunnyhop?
i dont think so but..

I find it way harder to bunnyhop when my tires are below 60 psi. When my tires are low, I can sometimes feel my rim bottom out on the concrete when I hop, or it just sucks up all my pop. The only reason I tried running low psi is because of that one rider Andrew Jackson. He could always easily hop up/over the tallest stuff at 40psi  and said riding low pressure helps but when I rode his bike it always felt like shit to hop

I think anywhere from 60-90psi is a good amount. I used to run 90-100 cuz my friend always has 110psi and I liked the basketball feeling, but I found that for wallride grip, bunnyhops, rolling resistance and overall comfort 70-80psi is a good medium.

The Bike Shop / Re: Let's talk about chain lube
« on: November 24, 2015, 01:50:03 PM »
I use rock n roll gold on all my bikes and it's done very well for me. I tried white lightning and its very good though white lightning seems to need more constant application. On occasion I light my chain on fire for a few seconds after I've lubed it to help the oil and wax seep into every little crevice. It's an old road racer trick I learned from my friend's dad, has anyone tried that before? I can't tell if it's placebo but chains always seem to run extra smooth after

The Bike Shop / Burnt welds/new frame
« on: October 27, 2015, 03:30:37 PM »
I was looking at my new frame and since it's painted black I can't see the welds completely. After watching that new mike laird video it got me thinking about the different frames that failed on me at the welds and was wondering if my new frame had good welding on it. When I look down the seat tube, I can see rust forming on the inside wall in the shape of where the welds are for the right seat stay and the left side of the top tube. I was wondering why the rust only started on those welds and not the others, and was wondering if that was a sign of burnt welds. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am interested and have $200 to pay now

I think the demand was there, the tires were just a little too expensive for most people. I got my k lyte aitkens from the odyssey warehouse sale for 12 bucks and they are probably my favorite tire ever, but if I had to pay retail (i think 40?) I would buy other tires every time because I can get 2 tires for essentially the same price

fwiw i've had the same experience as thomas with my bsd which has 3 pawls. When I turn the driver very slowly, you can feel/hear two clicks, the first one loud and the second one very quietly with just the tiniest bit of movement from the first click. I never had any issues with my primo mix which has 4 pawls

G, is there black magic coating on all colors of the sunday tall t bars, or only the black color called "black magic". I am hoping to strip a pair raw and don't want to deal with the black magic coating

The Bike Shop / Re: Dennis Enarson Cranks

Cool idea with the bolt. Wonder if its Deep enough so that the fit is similar to a socket wrench.

Why is it that cranks are going back to the splined 3-piece design? I thought that 2-piece was the new standard. Seems like 24mm cranks are all 3-piece.

I feel the 3 piece design is easier for companies to produce because then you only have to make 1 arm and 1 spindle which is compatible for both lhd/rhd. With a 2 piece design you need to create both rhd and lhd separately
