Have fired an AK, MP5 and M16 in the last couple of weeks. Big. Still haven't changed my mind on guns but can see the appeal a bit more... All about rocking up to the shooting range with a carrier bag full of bullets and Khmer Rouge veterans.

You yanks would love the American war crimes museum I went to the other day in Saigon!

Comparing shoes to knives? Really?

They serve an essential purpose, knives do too but only in certain situations.

Its hardly a silly question, what exactly are you doing day to day that requires a knife? I can't think of a single situation where using something else wouldn't work better. The only time I'd use a knife daily would be to cook...

I can just picture you walking around going about your day to day business with a belt with torches knives and guns, so jokes you think thats normal.

I'd (honestly) love to know what you lot do with your knifes? Unless you live in the country or work outdoors I can't see the point.

I carry a knife because I use a knife daily.

You don't need to though do you?

I own knifes, I'm not inherently against them. I don't need to carry one on my person, you don't either. What do you do open letters with a bowie? Do your cooking with a flick knife?

Im just struggling to see how a knife fits into peoples day to day lives...

i kill and gut fish fairly often. i dont have a desk so i carry a knife

No ones going to have an issue with taking a knife fishing, you need it. Its more carrying one every single day...

I'm not actually trying to be a dick, it's not the norm over here so I'm genuinely interested.

And you won't get a response because he can't justify it. Guaranteed every time he uses his knife a pair of scissors or a bottle opener would do the job better. Its not like he lives in the country either...

As a response to the statement that "every other cunt in the states has one,"  that is as much a generalization as saying that everyone in the UK has horrible teeth or something like that.  The only people on the board that have strong views about firearms are the ones that own them.

Just because your country is different and all uptight about their crime rate, which has gone up a significant amount in the past 15 years, does not mean that it is a correct way to live or better than any other way.

Crime here isn't so bad, I would bet that I live in a safer area than you do.  I don't need a gun, I have never needed a gun, but I like to have them just in case I ever do.  I cannot carry concealed weapons in my state.  America isn't like the fucking wild west.

Security has something to do with owning a gun, but paranoia?  C'mon, maybe some people, but not most.

I don't like to argue about guns because I feel like its the same as abortion and just keeps getting thrown about.

There is nothing wrong with guns, there is something wrong with people that use them for evil purposes, and by the way, most of those are unregistered, illegal and people with felonies already.

The reason people carry guns in the states is because other people have them, its self defence. Its not really a generalisation when something like 25% of people own a gun is it?

Crime rate over here hasn't gone up, lets not get into that again. Its been done to death and proved wrong. Less guns/infinitely more public services = better quality of life.

Security and paranoia are pretty closely linked. You might not be able to get a concealed carry permit, but others can.

A drop in crime in your state can be attributed to the work of god haha.

I agree with most of this, for once, except for this "The right to bear arms is at the root of much of your crime problems you joker, not the other way round."

Look at the amount of crimes committed with guns, gun related murders. Im ready for wheelr to come with "outlaw guns and only the outlaws have them", but that doesn't really hold much water. Over half your homicides are gun related, you can't argue the availability of guns has nothing to do with that. The percentage of which guns are used in self defence is under 1% of crimes relating to guns so the guns for self defence doesn't really wash either.

Can you explain how the second amendment is "grossly misinterpreted today"?

Look at the context it was written in. At the time there was no police force, you were allowed to raise militias in order to defend yourself, same with owning guns. That was the reason for the 2nd amendment being written. Today you have a police force yet still find the need to arm yourselves to the teeth, when in comparison there is next to nothing to arm yourselves against (of course apart from the government).

You can't go round talking about 'what the constitution was founded on' and go round quoting Jefferson, declaration of independence b2b slaveowner lol. Not to mention his lovely attitudes towards the Native population, handily whitewashed from much of todays history, 100m killed like its nothing.

The right to bear arms is at the root of much of your crime problems you joker, not the other way round.

I am correct.  You are not.  Just because your friends uncle sucks off some UN big wig doesn't mean you know everything.

You joker. Such a respected document, black people being 3/5ths of a person and all that.

What about all the democratic systems that were around before the constitution was written? The US system of government is not the be all and end all, its not without its flaws.

UN Declaration of human rights/geneva conventions/declaration of the rights of the child > US Constitution.

Now fuck off.

The United States Constitution is the most respected and sought after written document concerning rights in the whole fucking world.  Every upcoming country past and future used it or will use it to base a democratic system off of.  First there was the Magna Carta, then there was The United States Constitution, that's all.

Just no. Im not going to go into it here but you don't have a fucking clue.

UN declaration of human rights?
