Thanks for that suggestion, didn't even think to try a file! Makes more sense as if the lug ends up too short the whole fork is ruined.

To be honest I'm just glad that it could explain why my brakes have sucked for the last 3 years! I'll attempt and feed back!

So I'm still having trouble with my front brakes. Changed pads ( Odyssey clear by 4's) and managed to go back in time to get a 48h chrome rim.

Nothing has really improved and the whole front brake set up (Evo II) is still fully shit. I took everything apart the other day and found the brake lugs on my 2006ish Wethepeople Excalibur forks were like 2mm too long, and that there was a lot of wiggle and play for the brake calipers.

Just wondering if this could be a factor in why my brakes are crap, and if trying to remove some of this excess length is advisable?  I have tried using odd washers to take up the slack but this just seizes up the brakes, and tried an old Evo brake instead but also had tonnes of play.

Any input would be appreciated!

I just put a set of Odyssey Clear by 4's on the front and they seem pretty good so far (as long as my rim is clean but I think that's a separate issue I have).

Prior to that I've ran 'disco' pads for the last 10 years or so, they last a long time and I still run those on my rear brake. I've only been able to find those on eBay recently though.

I run a small strip of duct tape on the inside of the guard for chain-muting purposes. My chain couldn't be any looser and this has worked fine for me!

I managed to fix my brakes by toe-ing in the pads to account movement for the calipers on the brake mounts (they wiggle quite a bit), and mostly by putting Jello mix on the rims!!! I applied a thin layer just after dissolving some, now it has 'set' it seems to be working wonders!

I still haven't had a chance to get out there to see how little difference my tinkering will have made, but I know the cable is a little... Dated. It's an old slic cable so could do with being replaced, and then lubed up.

For anyone wondering though, I'm pretty sure I have a decent enough set up to get solid braking power (evo 2, clear pads, OLD primo levers, and tiny tiny fit flow bars).

Will keep you guys updated!

Thanks guys, I found some form of alcohol gel to use and played around with the brake pads, now the rim squeaks a lot (which is a good sign), just waiting for a session to properly see if it's made any difference at all!

I'm reluctant to buy a new rim, so if this doesn't work, looks like fizzy pop treatment for like. Ever.

Sorry to be dumb, but when you say alcohol, are we talking like whiskey or a specific cleaning chemical?

There could well be a build up on the rim (it's genuinely gutting as the rim is in SUCH good condition for 8 years old). I recently used a KFC lemon wet-wipe to clean it and it didn't make a difference

I just want my front brake to stop on a dime and sound like goose rape! Like the back one!

Hey,

I've had 2 7kas for years now. Back one is still awesome but the front one slips whenever I pull my front brake. I've adjusted the brake, tried new pads etc (clear ones), and ultimately it's still shit. Considering the age, does chrome just wear down? There is no flaking at all, and the rim is still structurally sound.

Anyone have any experience or knowledge about this? Ideas for quick fixes?

Some people are offering hazard lites as a replacement (I run 48 spokes); how do they compare to 7kas? Modern day alternative perhaps?

I had a custom autopilot several years back (ordered through Empire). Took a few weeks to get from FBM to Empire then a week or so from there to UK. unfortunately i got hit big time through customs, and had them same problem when ordering my Forecaster from state side too. Worked out to be a fraction cheaper than ordering from within the UK overall, but when you consider that the price is for a unique and personal frame, it could be worth forking out for.

A friend of mine has these and loves them.  He's a big dude and they've held up to him for the 12 months (or longer even) he's had them. He swears by them, loves how comfy they are and has had no problems. At $18 dollars if you don't like them you could sell them for a profit!

The Bike Shop / Tripod Seat sizes?

Hey,

I've not been able to see these in person yet, but how big do these come up? I get the impression they are a bit wider than fat capital style seats (at least the fly Devon and United ones etc).

I currently run an old shadow railed seat as I love massive sofa seats. Are tripods bigger than fat capitals?
