Stripping peely chrome rims
« on: July 01, 2015, 09:18:54 PM »
So i know your not supposed to sand it off because the dust is super bad for lungs, but what about where the chrome is so fucked that its basically dropping off, and theres just that white corrosion shit on the actual rim itself?

Is it safe to sand the white corroded stuff off or not?
this year i am going to have sex and it will be awesome

This shit is why I finally stopped buying chrome rims, despite the fact they are SO good for brakes

I only seen it on old cheap rims and Odyssey rims. My Dragonfly ones held up for years without chipping while my ody started after 6 months...

Anyway, Ive tried compressed water, which only removed chips, so no good idea. Tried a metal brush on a drill and it worked for a little bit, but not really the result you are after.

Just get some new rims with better chrome.

Ive used muriatic acid on an old aluminum stem that was chrome plated. The acid basically reacts/eats the aluminum and the chrome comes right off.....

Dangerous.

HCl could potentially work. The of Cl >   of Cr+3

I didn't think the molarity of the hydrochloric acid you get in Home Depot or wherever you get that shit was very great.
