Proper fucked it today, planned a route out on a map near my girlfriends not realising it was full of climbing and I hate climbing. Ended up being sick at the side of the road half way up this hill so went home. Searched it online when I got back and it was a 1km climb with an average gradient of 9.7% and maximum gradient of 21.8%.Everything was wrong before I left - wasnt hydrated enough, rushed through different breakfast I've never had before, necked a big smoothie before I left, tyres were soft and I didn't have a pump...bad day. What's everyone eat before a ride? Is it worth getting a good breakfast in right before you go, or to eat then leave it at least 30 mins?
Seriously underestimated how many km id do a day. Pushing 100+km easily and only stop cause it's getting dark. Did 10 hours in the saddle today. Lots of climbing and getting lost. Just arrived in Domfront. It's a little town south of Vire. French roadbikers are seriously cool. I get a big cheer and a wave whenever we cross paths. Sleeping in a tent in the woods tonight. Waiting for it to get dark so I can go to sleep without fear of being spotted. Closest Tinder match is 60km away. Fucking French countryside.
I ran ahead a bit and hid, dropped my jeans and took my top off and started chasing them whilst spraying beer all over them and making weird noises.
In Chemilé now. Should be in Poitiers by tomorrow. Got a guided tour in broken English of a bike shop in Azé yesterday. Dude had a load of cool bikes from the 70-90s. Some sweet Italian steel in there! Including a nice AWD mountain bike. No photos allowed though Super glad I went with downtube shifters instead of bar end ones. Keep smashing bar ends off stuff lol. No mechanical failures yet though!
