I would go with a Glock G20 10mm, its fairly cheap, very simple to use, light weight, and accurate. It holds 15 rounds a clip which is plent from stopping a home intruder. Of the many hand guns i have shot over the years this was the best feeling and most accurate to me. However if you wanna get some show stopping ability you could always go with the .44 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

considering most gun fights last less then 3 rounds i doubt you will ever need more the the 6 the 38 holds. and if you can't take someone down with six shots you need to learn to aim. i just like the simplicity of a revolver too.
All the knowledge in the world is of no use to fools.

Hammer some nails through the end if you want to increase the stopping power.

for me i never liked the handle on the .38 it was always too small for my hand. i just think the glock is the easiest gun to use. someone with no gun knowledge could use it. however that is not always good.

good for home protection, you only need one shot and dont really have to aim.

well to be honest do u want to kill the guy or scare him off?
if u want to do damage then i would go for a small gun because you dont want to damage your home as the gun is so powerfull to will go throw them/him like air and then put masive wholes in your house or have him splaterd everywhere just any gun will kill
as for too scare a simple shotgun will outclass whatever they will have and scare away to never come back therefor no mess just the power in your hands
