Bit of a retro project, made a few 94/58bcd Bullseye crank spiders. Still need a bit of a polish and clean, plus a few holes tapping but you get the idea.

Shouldnt the bits above the handle point upwards, so you can look through them as you do your 'thunder... thunder.... thundercatsss-HOOOOO!'

Its basically worthless without the ability to do that, recycle it into the sword of greyskull.

I finally got around to using the press I made over spring break.  This the fourth longboard I've made and the first from the new press.  I didn't think the board was going to turn out so well because I just kind of threw the press together and didn't really take care to making sure things were exact.  But, It looks pretty good.  I built the press to give me 3/8" of concave and 3/8" of camber.

Specs:

Four sheets of 1/8" Baltic Birch

Length:  40"
Width:  9"
Wheelbase:  31"
Concave:  3/8"
Camber:  3/8"

Well done sir! What type of press do you have set up? I was looking into making one over the summer but wasnt sure which route i wanted to go being a vacbag or just clamps.

Thanks.

It's a ribbed press made from some left-over plywood, 2x10s and some scrap angle-steel and threaded rod.  I'll try to get some photos of it soon.  I haven't tried vacuum-bagging but I've heard it's a good way to go.

"symbolic urn" for my grandpa (scattered his actual ashes). made it to match the one that my grandma's ashes came back in. for some reason his came in a plastic urn.

I guess this kind of counts.  I suppose I could post this in automotive hottness but whatever.  I finally got around to painting the doors on my 1951 Chevrolet pickup this weekend (that leaves the bed, hood and some smaller parts that need painting).  The color is actually a candy base coat that is supposed to be covered with a candy of some sort, but I just spray clear over it.  It takes on some very different colors/shades depending on the lighting.

Vacuum bags are great for prototyping, but a proper 2 sided press is better if you actually want to make something functional imo.

I have also made a bunch of mockups with a single sided press and a very strong fabric that you "pull" over the veneers. Compared to the vacuum bag I've used, the fabric method actually provides more pressure and is easier to control (not to mention much cheaper).
