21.5" Tall Boy or Credence M.O.D. ?
« on: December 01, 2014, 12:42:14 AM »
Which would you choose? I ride more street than anything. Trying to get something before the sales are gone.

$295 Tall Boy shipped
or
$328 M.O.D. shipped

I cant find specifics like tubing thicknesses so thats making it more fun. But the HT angle and shorter CS length is pushing me toward the more expensive option.  ::) Steadfast isn't in stock so don't think that will be happening.

Thanks for any help.

Weird. I ride a MOD and was thinking about the tallboy as my next frame.

Also, pretty sure the backend is shorter on the tall boy.

What size MOD?

& yeah I was trying to say I would prefer the longer CS; the MOD is 13.6" and TB is 13.475", TB also has steeper HT angle.

My odyssey forks are uncut so I think I would be ok, 166mm steerer tube. Xlt-t's have a 160mm steerer tube... Not a huge difference.

If you're going with a 21.5 tt, I'd go with the MOD because it has longer chainstays.  They're still pretty short in the scheme of things, but will help you bunnyhop a little more stable.

MOD doesn't have some flimsy CS or DT right? they're both at least butted im sure? hopefully not straight .035"? (found my answer read below) TallBoy is just listed as 'butted tubeset'. (which only concerns the front tubes apparently)

MOD just seems like more of a trails frame in the commercial, FBM is a lot better at this sort of thing, specs right on the site: 'Chain Stays: Double Bend, 7/8” O.D.x 0.049" Wall tapered to 5/8" OD 4130 Chromoly', specs for EACH tube.

How hard is that? On the Tall Boy page all you get is 'TUBESET: Butted True Temper SuperTherm Tubing' and on the MOD page? nothing.

I do kinda like the more traditional geometry of the MOD + longer CS though, I don't really like the CS removable mounts. Would you say removable mounts are lower overall compared to welded? higher? the same? Just looking at it they look low enough.

FBM? then again the steadfast has a more rake headtube @74* so ehhh, hard to find a 21.5" frame or any frame from FBM right now. A lot opens up @ 21.25", but I was down to try something new being over 6'4", and I like the idea of a shorter stem since i've always had long ones, being tall.

TL DR; REGARDLESS of all that: the CS thickness I guess is what matters most! so which if either has straight gauge CS, or do both frames have butted chainstay tubes? (No neither do after calling.)

So I called them :p... AND they (Ryan?) said "both frames use .049", no s&m uses butted CS" so good?, and both have butted DT not so good. So I guess MOD is ideal. Did the L.T.F. not have thin CS when it was out? Man that was awhile ago! haha I guess thats just when the tapered tubing was new and light! It did have thin SS one site says.

I had a MOD and it is my favorite frame I've ever had. I rode it peg less mostly and it felt great. I gave it to a friend in need and he rides 4 pegs grinding everything in sight. Still going strong.

If you're riding street, I'd definitely get the Tall Boy.

The MOD is stated as being the more 'street oriented' Credence so i'm on board.

The Tall Boy's geometry is too weird for me. I already have steep forks (F25's) so the 75.5 HT angles is really not sitting right. Along with: the tall headtube making you second guess your uncut steerer tube length, too short rear end length, too high BB, and seat stay brake mounts/cable guides at some *new* angles i'm not feeling it.

Too much new for me, and being 6'4"+ I want all the CS length I can get. I HATE clipping my heels on my pegs. 13.75" would be ideal... I'm still on this Premium Harrington which has like a 14" CS slammed and it's fine. 13.2" on a 21.5" frame is straight laughable to me when I can manual just fine on an unslammed 14" CS, AND have no chance of clipping heel.
