My thoughts exactly.  A strut under the tab and between the stays would have been a good idea.

I can't help but wonder why he used that gigantic square stock rather than some thinner round piping. Must weigh a million pounds.

There are insane amounts of bikes like that here in Copenhagen. There are 100000 different types and they are all super expensive.
