keychain installation
« on: January 17, 2015, 10:17:45 AM »
So I finally got a hollow keychain. But the chain breaker adaptor doesn't fit my chain breaker. Of course I dont want to mess up a quite expensive chain. What have others done to over come this?

Yeah, you can do it without a proper chain breaker, all you need is a vice. George put up 2 videos on his YouTube channel about it

I hammered mine out using a 990 brake spring cap, the supplied hollow pin adapter and a shitty plastic 5lb. dumbbell.

If you're back in the Leamington area I've got the proper Odyssey chain tool in stock at the shop. I had the same problem and bodged a really old chain tool we had.

when it was new, I would go as snug as possible, then back it off a quarter turn.  I also checked it really quick before I rode.  It would stick a bit if I didn't back it off.

Now that its warn in a bit, I he-man that shit.  Smooth as buttah.

One of my 'master' pins wont take anything more than the very tip of my 3mm allen key. The rest are fine, the hex on that one is just slightly under sized I guess.

Just installed a hollow version and got a good park session in on it. Everything went smooth from the get go. It was an easy install w/ a Park CT-3 chain breaker.
I tightened the master link as much as it could go with a regular 3mm Allen key. All links moved smooth w/ no need to back off any. Still good after the

Other than having a shit chain breaker it has been really easy. With the solid version you don't need the adaptor.

U can use the cult chain breaker just have to drill out the receiver so the oversized pins can fit (and come out)

I have a hollow one that I have yet to install. I'm planning on gearing 25-9, but I may want to run 28-9. Is it going to suck to add links in the future?
