Not much more than it being everyones favorite obscure rim back in the days. Have you found one? I remember people looking everywhere for them like 10 years ago.

Think double wall and low profile rims that were quite light.

Quite sure that it is welded. Think most people used it as a light front rim. Also quite sure it was actually designed for race and as such good for brakes.

There is a difference between the regular 7X and the Super 7X. Apparently the regular 7x was shit, but I cant say for sure, as all the Araya rims I had when I was younger were the Super 7Xs, which were great until the chrome flaked off.

7x was very light and very weak.

Super 7x was fairly light and fairly weak.

Chrome was good on some batches, shit on others. Older Araya rims had amazing chrome somehow but it got worse..

Super 7X were similar to Rhyno Lites, perhaps a bit tougher. Chrome was generally shit in my experience. The best Araya rim was by far the RB-J1.

I had Super 7X on Suzue hubs and Comp IIIs, still probably my favourite wheelset. Dunno about riding street on em but for trails they were great. I must have had the good chrome ones because they never peeled, just gradually faded.

All of my and my friends' haz lites had huge issues with the chrome. started peeling within a year and then basically became useless.

Could have been an issue with the weather and road salt perhaps, as we rode everywhere and anytime back in the day. I would stay far away from them.

I ridden chrome Hazard Lites and chrome 7KAs with a brake for considerable amount of time. No issues with peeling whatsoever. Not to be too much of a fan boy, but the modern day hard anodized black rims have held up and lock up great with brake use for over a year so far. Except the dings from me, finish looks great. Feel like I'm done with chrome rims unless I want em solely for looks one day.

Just something to consider, BMX technology has improved considerably in two decades :)

100% of the rims I've destroyed were 7xs. I look at them as having nostalgic value and nothing more.
